Four more Southern hospitals to serve COVID-19 patients

Four more rural hospitals in the Southern Province are set to function as COVID-19 patient treatment sanatoriums, Southern Province Health Services Director Consultant Chandima Siritunga said.

“The COVID-19 treatment bay with 100 beds at the Karandeniya hospital has already commenced admissions of patients. In addition to that, the COVID infirmary with 250 beds at the Hikkaduwa Arachchikanda Hospital and Pandemic Treatment Station with 85 beds at the Weligama Regional Hospital are totally ready for the delivery of pandemic health services,” the Provincial Health Director further said.

“In addition to the above centres, plans are underway to utilize the Matara Nilwala College of Education, the College of Education at Kurunduwatta in Akmeemana and the Angunakolapelessa School of Agriculture as supplementary COVID-19 treatment centres,” the Provincial Health Director added.
