Electricity for poor householders before November 16 next year – Minister Dullas

The Government will provide electricity for the houses of the poor before the end of President Gotabaya Rajapakse’s second year in office on November 16 next year, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

The Minister was addressing a public gathering in Polatugoda, Thihagoda.

Minister Alahapperuma said that harnessing renewable energy such as solar, wind and water will be profitable and efficient when generating power for the country. Ten thousand power transformers have been installed in the past year and each of them generates 100 KWs, he said.

The Minister said that Rs. 3.4 million has been allocated to provide drinking water for residents of Polatugoda.

The biggest ever renewable power generation plant in Sri Lanka is under construction in the Mannar District, the Minister said. Wind power will be added to the national grid through the project. Solar power panels will be fixed on every rooftop after carrying out researches in this regard, Minister Dallus Alahapperuma said.

Rattan, Brass, Clay, Furniture and Rural Industries Promotion State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera said that the Government will give priority for rural industries in the country. Rs. 2000 million has been allocated from this budget in this regard. Local manufacturers will be uplifted by promoting local industries, he said. Local manufacturers were granted tool kits by Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and State Minister Prasnna Ranaweera at the event.

The Minister and the State Minister inspected several factories at the end of the meeting.
