Principals requested to refrain from seeking additional funds or donations

The Education Ministry in a Circular to all Government school Principals has requested them to refrain from seeking any additional funds or donations from parents when admitting Grade One students to leading schools this year.

The Circular noted that if such undue donations are accepted, the Principals would be considered to have accepted bribes from parents according to the existing law.

Nearly, 36 Principals and teachers of Government schools were accused of accepting bribes for admitting primary students during the past three years.

This year too, 346 complaints have been received by the Education Ministry over soliciting undue donations from parents by school authorities,' said Kurunegala Senior Director of Education W.M. Balasooriya.

Balasooriya was speaking at a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala District held in Bingiriya, Kurunegala.
