Sixteen year old netball captain of the school, chess player and swimmer Karunanayake Arachchige Nethmi Vihara Weeraratne is an up and coming young sports woman of Dhammissara National School, Nattandiya.

Nethmi joined Grade One of Dhammissara National School Nattandiya when R. K. W. Gunasekera was at the helm of the school and her first class teacher was Mrs. Mala. As she was very active in the classroom it was Mrs. Mala who asked Nethmi to participate for the Inter House Sports Meet at the age of seven years and she was in the 50x4 metre Relay team and her team won this event. In 2018 too she was a member of the Relay Team and they came first. In 100x4 metre race and she came second in Putt Shot and third in Discus Throw. In 2019 she participated in the Inter House Chess Tournament and she was the Runner Up She took up to Netball at the age of 14 years and her coach was Mr. Upananda and in 2016 her school team came up to Semi Finals in the all island Milo Tournament in the Under 14 age category and in 2017 too they came up to Semi Finals and at the schools Colours Nite she was adjudged the Under 14 Netball Player of the Year and in 2018 too her school came up to Semi Finals of the All Island Milo Tournament.

She was the Vice Captain of her House Team and her team won the Championship from 2016 to 2018 and she captained the school team and was awarded Netball Colours in 2016. Due to Coronavirus they could not go further in 2020. Her Netball Coach was Mrs. Trishila de Silva and the Teachers in Charge were Mrs. Akila and Mrs. Thilini respectively. The Prefect of Games Keerthi Jayasekera, the Principal Anil Pushpakumara and Deputy Principal Mrs. Nilmini Rodrigo are always supportive of her.
