Mathews predicts turn on day-two

Angelo Mathews believes that day-two of the second Test could be crucial for both Sri Lanka and England as he predicted there could be a lot of turn at the Galle Stadium starting from today.

The former Sri Lanka captain remained unbeaten on 107 as the home side reached 229 for four at stumps after acting Skipper Dinesh Chandimal had won the toss and elected to bat first.

“If these conditions remain tomorrow, it will start turning. We don't know what a good score is but we will try to get as many as we can,” Mathews told shortly after the game.

Mathews also gave credit to the England bowlers for trying hard under hot and humid conditions although the wicket was flat in the beginning.

“The wicket was flat and it was hot. Credit should go to the England bowlers. They gave nothing away,” he stressed.

Mathews further said that he was quite prepared to bowl a few overs in the morning had Sri Lanka decided to field first.

“Mickey Arthur had a chat with me, asking if I can bowl. I have been bowling in T20s and if we had bowled first I was quite ready,” he added. - (Agencies)
