Farmers in the Ampara District said that they cannot harvest paddy because of the heavy rains.

The harvesting in the Maha 2020/21 season has begun now. The harvest will be brought by the Government from the farmers, they said. Many parts of the province, however, had been inundated in the heavy rains during the past two days.

About 109,000 acres of paddy lands have been cultivated with paddy in the Ampara District for the Maha season.

Chena farmers in the district have also been affected. They said that they cannot prepare land for subsidiary crops in the rains.
