Senior journalist Ramesh Uvais was presented with the Humanitarian Excellence Award 2021 recently in recognition of his media role to build peace and harmony among all communities, through culture and arts.
The ‘Kala Keerthi’ award was presented by the Media Unit of the Human Rights Organization of Justices of Peace.
In a career spanning more than two decades, Ramesh has also participated in diverse fields like acting and singing in addition to documentary translations and film sub-titling.
In 2013, the Colombo Zahira College old boy also won the SIGNIS/OCIC Cyril B. Perera Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award for film journalism, being the first and only Muslim journalist to clinch this award so far.
Veteran journalists Samantha Yahampath, Kelum Srimal and Priyantha Wijesinghe also received this Humanitarian Excellence Award 2021 in addition to several senior artistes.
