The administering of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for children with co-morbidities in the 12 -19 years age group will commence from today (24) onwards.
The Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo has requested parents to register their children between 12 and 19 years suffering from disabilities or chronic illnesses to schedule a date and time for COVID-19 vaccinations.
The administration of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for children with co-morbidities who belong to the aforementioned age group will commence at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital.
Thereafter, vaccines will be rolled out in the Western Province on Monday and in all base hospitals in the country, hospital sources said.According to the hospital sources, the Registration for Pfizer is only open for children between 12-19 years and with specific co-morbidities. Parents need to bring all the medical records of the child. They will be assessed by a Consultant Pediatrician before deciding whether the vaccine would be given or not. Therefore, registering for the vaccination does not guarantee that the vaccine will be given.
