Sri Lanka’s power-hitting batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa has informed Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday of his intention to retire from international cricket with immediate effort.

Rajapaksa, in his letter of resignation handed over to Sri Lanka Cricket, said the decision to resign was taken after considering his family obligations.

“I have very carefully considered my position as a player, husband and am taking this decision looking forward to fatherhood and associated family obligations,” he said in his letter of resignation. He also wished Sri Lanka Cricket all the success in its future endeavors.

The 30-year-old Bhanuka Rajapaksa has played five One Day Internationals and 18 T20 Internationals for the Sri Lanka National cricket team and has scored 89 and 320 runs at an average of 17.8 and 26.67 respectively. He made a good comeback during the recently concluded T20 World Cup as well as the LPL franchise tournament which he captained the runner-up Galle Gladiators team.
