A 21-year-old youth was brutally tortured with one of his fingers severed and his foot burnt allegedly by a millionaire businessman in Aluthgama Kotapitiya area after the youth tried to pick up some coconuts from the businessman’s estate to feed his starving mother was arrested. Police said that the suspected businessman who had been hiding for several days after the incident was arrested when he came to the Alutgama police station yesterday.
The police said the injured youth and his mother had come to the police station and lodged a complaint. In his statement to the police, the young man, has stated that in addition to the suspected businessman, another person too had tortured him and the police are on the lookout for the latter. Police said that the tortured youth has been admitted to the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital intensive care unit.
