US ready to assist Sri Lanka with IMF package - Ambassador

The United States (US) stands ready to assist Sri Lanka to unlock the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assistance when all creditors agree to fair and equitable treatment, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung said.

Commending India’s position on Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring plan, she tweeted, “Pleased to see India confirm strong support for Sri Lanka’s prospective Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme and commit to providing financing and debt relief transparently and in coordination with Paris Club”.

The Indian Government recently informed the IMF in writing that it strongly supports Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring efforts in the latter’s bid to secure a US$ 2.9 billion EFF.
