Tax increase may lead to professionals leaving country - NPP

An alarming number of professionals are leaving the country due to increased taxation, National People’s Power Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Parliament yesterday (10).

MP Dissanayake pointed out that unless the government takes some action regarding the matter, it may lead to another serious crisis. Dissanayake made these observations joining the adjournment debate on the policy statement presented by the President Ranil Wickremesinghe last Wednesday.

“Many attempts were made to postpone the election. Several MPs made different comments of our income methods and expenses. The government should carry out a transparent investigation if there is some issue regarding these matters. We are ready for a open stage debate on country’s economy against anybody including the President, former presidents or finance ministers,” Dissanayake observed.

“The government is imposing too many taxes on the people of this country. Professionals are drastically affected by it. Many who are holding executive positions are leaving the country. Steps should be taken to manage this issue. Today, doctors, bankers, employees in power and energy sectors, ports have taken into streets demanding their rights,” Dissanayake also said.
