Official Identity Card for teachers and principals on Teachers’ Day

Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena handed over an official identity card for the first time to school teachers and principals under the Ministry of Education at the Ministry located at Isurupaya yesterday (6) when Teachers’ Day was commemorated.

Up to now the Ministry of Education had not issued an official identity card to school teachers and principals.

Current Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena took measures to adress this issue and fulfilled yesterday.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa extended their good wishes to this endeavour. State Ministers Susil Premajayanth, Vijitha Berugoda, and Seetha Arambepola, Member of the Education Advisory Committee Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, Anupa Pasqual, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Professor Kapila Perera as

well as Ministry officials together with teachers and principals participated on this occasion.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena had the following to say.

“Giving priority to the in depth and timely theme that the heart of the reawakening of education is the teacher, we will make use of this occasion to convey the nation’s commendation to the mission teachers render, who are a strength for the future. In the honourable President’s message, the content of Saubaghyaye Dekma it was mentioned that the unending contributions that teachers expect and the respect will be given to them.

While the Corona pandemic destruction was blowing across the world, at a moment when attempts are being made to bring it under control, we are on the verge of reaching the success of the programme that the President’s contribution has launched. Therefore, we have got an opportunity to honour teachers and respect them during a better situation than before.

It is the teacher who gives not only qualities and wisdom to our children but knowledge as well and transform them into good citizens. Therefore, we have to pay our homage and give respect to teachers. Within such an environment, we have to commit ourselves to ensure, the security, advancement and the security of rights for that purpose of teachers. As the Minister, I together with State Ministers including everyone from Ministries to Departments request everyone to provide teachers with support so that they can fulfil their responsibilities.

We are in the process of discussing how we can access a number of measures in the field of education as well as society, to commonly transform not only what our generation of teachers are doing on behalf of children but everything that is created by them. We are engaged in a procedure of creating a national policy from school education up to university education within education which is of use to teachers and children under the advice of the honourable President.

We hope to fulfil responsibilities and obligations to the generation of teachers without fail.

At the same time, teachers have to move beyond their duties and fulfil their responsibilities and obligations as teachers to fulfil expectations of 4.3 million children of the country while gaining an understanding of their responsibilities and obligations.
